RIDING FOR A REASON

Calgary's downtown couriers are a different breed. Rain, snow, sleet or shine, couriers brave those elements and downtown traffic to get packages from A to B -- sometimes risking their lives in the process.

These couriers also have hearts of gold.

Today, no less than 100 bicycles messengers will hit the streets in an effort to raise money for charity.

The bike couriers will be riding for a reason as they will donate a percentage of their earnings today to CUPS, Street Teams/Safe House and the Mustard Seed.

The fund-raising day, organized by the Calgary Cycle Messenger Association, will see couriers donate anywhere from 25% to 100% of their day's pay to charity. Various courier companies will also make pledges to support their messengers.

If you're working downtown today, use a courier to send your package instead of walking it over to the next building. After all, it's for charity.
