City Council will try Monday to lasso those bobbing, weaving, speedinghellions on wheels - the bicycle couriers.
Aldermen will look at a proposal to license the City's estimated 120two-wheeled couriers. The proposal would also require couriers to carrya large identification badge.
A representative of bicycle couriers said he supports the proposal becauseit would reign in the two- wheeled terrorists who break every traffic lawgiving all couriers a bad name.
Henry Bruce, president of the Downtown Messenger Association of Calgary,said he hopes it would open the door for his association to become a self-policingbody.
Bruce said he would like the association to have the power to lift thelicenses of members with too many traffic tickets.
Because the bicycle courier ranks have such a high turnover, it is nearlyimpossible for the association to foster good bicycle skills, and governmentcontrols appear to be only answer, said Bruce.
