Woman is Rescued From Chicago River

A 53-year-old Chicago woman who apparently jumped into the Chicago RiverMonday morning was rescued by a Chicago Fire Department captain.

The woman was in critical but stable condition at Northwestern MemorialHospital. The woman jumped off a bridge into the river near Dearborn Streetand Wacker Drive at 9:13 a.m. A bicycle messenger saw the woman leap andattempted to save her, said Max Walchuk, fire departmentt spokesman. RobertHuggins, with Chicago Messenger Service, abandoned the attempt becauseof the cold water. Fire Capt. Richard Dory then jumped in the water andrescued the woman.
